Writing for SEO doesn't mean writing for a robot: it means writing the best answer to a question, then making it easy to find and understand. Here is a nine-step method.
1. Choose a topic and a main keyword
Start from a real question from your customers and check that it is searched for. Make sure no page on your site already covers the same intent.
2. Analyze the intent and the results page
Look at the top results: content type, angle, depth, formats, related questions. Your article must match that kind of need, and bring something more: a precision, an example, a data point.
3. Build an outline
- A clear main title (H1).
- Sections (H2) that answer the important sub-questions.
- Subsections (H3) when useful.
4. Write, answering the question quickly
Give the essence of the answer in the introduction, then go deeper. Use short sentences, precise vocabulary, airy paragraphs, and lists and tables when they clarify.
5. Bring value and reliability
- Concrete examples and real cases.
- Verified information with reliable sources.
- An identified author, with their role or experience.
- An honest update date.
6. Optimize the page elements
- A clear, attractive title tag with the main topic.
- A meta description that makes people want to click.
- A short, readable URL.
- Images compressed with descriptive alt text.
- Internal links to your related content, and links to reliable external sources.
7. Proofread and correct
Check spelling, logic and figures. Read aloud to spot clumsy sentences. Polished content inspires trust.
8. Publish and get it indexed
Publish, add the page to your sitemap, add links from other pages of the site, then use Search Console's URL inspection to request indexing.
9. Measure and improve
After a few weeks, look at queries, impressions, CTR and positions. Improve the title, complete missing sections, update regularly.
What about the ideal length?
There is no ideal word count. An article should be as long as necessary to answer completely, and no longer. A simple topic can be covered in a few hundred words; a complex topic will need more development.
Mistakes to avoid
- Repeating the keyword artificially.
- Padding with generalities to reach a word count.
- Copying what all competitors already say.
- Forgetting mobile readers: short paragraphs and clear headings.
